Mr. Jack E. “Papa Jack” Lawrence, age 93 of Soperton, passed away on Wednesday morning, September 22, 2021 at his home.

Born in Treutlen County he was the youngest and last living child born to the late Nice Lawrence and Nettie Fowler Lawrence. As a young man he served in the United States Army during the Korean Conlfict.  Upon being honorably discharged he returned home and worked at Fowler Dairy and Knox Lumber in Soperton.  In the early 1950s he married Jeff Davis County native, Alene “Shug” Nobles.  He later worked as a Printer for nineteen years at Kalvine in Swainsboro and retired from GFF after an additional eighteen years as a Needle Line Operator and Mechanic.

After retiring, Mr. Lawrence enjoyed wood working, building bird houses, time spent out of doors and rambling.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Alene Nobles Lawrence who passed away in 1995, a grandson, Lance Hackle, a daughter in law, Janice Lawrence and all of his siblings.

Mr. Lawrence leaves behind his children, Judy Lawrence Selph, (J. D.), Mt. Vernon, GA, Gregory Lawrence, Soperton, GA, a grand daughter, Jennifer Walker, Soperton, Ga, a grand daughter in law, Rena Hackle, great grandchildren, Victoria A. Lawrence Thornton, Centerville, GA, Christian K. Thornton, Soperton, GA, Steven A. Thornton, Soperton, GA, Ashley Meeks, Soperton, GA and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 pm on Sunday, September 26, 2021 from the graveside in Westview Cemetery with Pastor Curtis Sumner officiating.

Military honors will be accorded by the United States Army Ceremonial Honors Detail from Fort Gordon, Georgia.

His family will receive friends on Sunday at the graveside or friends and family may call and visit at Mr. Jack’s residence.

Serving as pallbearers will be: Scott Richardson, D. J. Mason, Keith Clements, Frankie Wade, Dale Brantley and Britt Odom.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Soperton VFW Post.
