Mrs. Martha Glover Autry, age 88, longtime resident of Macon passed away, Friday morning, September 10, 2021 at the Treutlen County Health and Rehabilitation Center in Soperton.
Born in Americus, Georgia, she was one of two children born to the late Carr Sullivan Glover and Martha Elizabeth Duncan Glover. She attended Young Harris High School and Georgia Southwestern College in Americus. She had lived in Macon, Georgia since 1966 and was known as the “Neighborhood Mom”. All her children’s friends gathered at their house and made many runs around the Macon hot spots in the famous 1970 “Butt Hauling Wildcat Buick”. She worked with her husband, Albert Autry, in his Banker’s Life insurance agency in Macon. She had relocated to Dublin, Georgia in 2017.
A lover of pets; she had her favorites: Sammie, Fifi, India and Smokey.
Mrs. Autry was a longtime member of Forest Hills United Methodist Church in Macon where she was a founding member of the Marshall Singles Class.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her former husband, Albert Herbert Autry Sr., her brother, Carr S. Glover III, a daughter, Clara Yvonne Autry Merchant and a cousin, Caroline Glover.
Mrs. Autry leaves behind, her son, Albert Herbert “Al” Autry Jr. (Celia), her daughter, Virginia Lynn Autry – Bailey (Ronnie), grandchildren, Katherine Rebecca “Katie” Larmore (Adam), Thomas Garrett “Rhett” Sorrow (Yvonne). Brooke Elizabeth Sorrow, Diana Lynne Merchant (Rob), great grandchildren, Addison Elizabeth Larmore, Brice Adam Larmore, Bryant Garrett Sorrow, Cane Jefferson Sorrow and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Sunday, September 12, 2021 from the graveside in Thigpen Cemetery, in Rockledge, with Reverend Jordy Barwick officiating.
Her family will receive friends, on Sunday, at the graveside.
