The RTCA Crusaders fell to 0-3 on the season with a 21-12 loss Friday night to the Edmund Burke Academy Spartans in Waynesboro. Both teams failed to score in the first quarter.

The Crusaders got on the scoreboard on the first play in the second quarter on a 36-yard pass from quarterback TJ Stanley to Tripp Durden. The 2-point conversion failed. RTCA had a 6-0 lead.

The Spartans answered with a touchdown of their own on a 31-yard run with 7:36 in the quarter. The PAT was no good to make the score tied at 6-6.

Edmund Burke took the lead in the game with 3:20 remaining in the half after a Crusader turnover and running it in the endzone on a 1-yard run. The 2-point try was good. The Spartans had the lead 14-6.

RTCA got on the board for the second time on another Stanley to Durden pass of 25-yards. The 2-point try was no good to cut the Spartans lead to 14-12 at halftime.

Edmund Burke scored the final points in the game on a 3-yard touchdown run with 4:07 left in the third quarter. The PAT was good for a 21-12 lead for the Spartans.

The Crusaders committed four turnovers in the game including three interceptions to just two by the Spartans and that proved to be the difference in the game.

TJ Stanley was 10 for 17 in passing for 117 yards with 2 TD’s and three interceptions. Tripp Durden led the Crusaders with 97 yards in receiving yards and 2 touchdowns.  Tucker Heath had 11 carries for 36 yards.

The Crusaders are off this week and are back in action at home on September 17th against Piedmont Academy.
