The Montgomery County Eagles defeated the Treutlen Vikings 45 – 12 Friday night at Brogdon Field in Mt. Vernon to win their 6th straight over the rival Vikings.
After recovering a Viking fumble near midfield, the Eagles scored first on a 1 yard run by QB Bo Davidson with 5:54 left in the first quarter. The PAT by Kicker Jackson Cartwright was good and Montgomery County lead 7 – 0.
The Eagles added another touchdown with 9:23 left in the second quarter following another Treutlen turnover when Brandon Denmark scampered in from 3 yards out to extend the lead to 13 – 0. On their next possession, the Vikings snapped a ball over their punters head giving the Eagles the ball at the Treutlen 1 yard line. The Eagles took advantage on the first play and scored when Tailek Jackson pushed his way across the goal line to give the Eagles a 19 – 0 lead with 7:31 left in the second quarter.
Montgomery County added another touchdown before the half on a 42 yard pass from Bo Davidson to Xavier Brantley with 3:53 left before halftime giving the Eagles a 25 – 0 lead.
Treutlen got on the scoreboard with 7:30 left in the third quarter when Qamar Jordan ran it in from 4 yards out. The PAT was unsuccessful and the Eagles led 25 – 6. On their ensuing possession, the Eagles scored on a 16 yard run by Brandon Denmark to extend the lead to 32 – 6 with 6:20 remaining in the third quarter.
Montgomery County then recovered an onside kick and scored again with 4:56 remaining in the third quarter on a pass from Davidson to Denmark from 16 yards out. The successful PAT made the score 39 – 6 in favor of the Eagles. Montgomery County tacked on another touchdown with 25 seconds left in the third quarter on a 14 yard run by Darius Wells to make the score 45 – 6 heading to the fourth quarter.
Treutlen added another score with 2:29 left in the contest when Viking QB Jordan Coney broke loose for 74 yards to make the final score 45 – 12 in favor of Montgomery County.
