(L to R): Rochelle Towery, Taylor Towery, Tommy Towery, and Mayor Doug Roper
Some people refuse to let what some people might consider a disability define them and such is the determination of Taylor Towery of Vidalia.
At this month’s meeting of the Vidalia City Council, Mayor Doug Roper presented Taylor with the Sweet Onion Citizen Award for July.
“Taylor, you are an inspiration, not just to me, but this community,” Mayor Roper said. “You get up every morning and go to work. Nowhere in this nomination form that your Aunt Lisa wrote does it use the word ‘disabled’ because you’re not. I believe disability is a mind-set, not something physical.”
Taylor is the 25-year-old son of Tommy and Rochelle Towery, and a 2018 graduate of the Georgia Academy for the Blind in Macon.
Mayor Roper began the Sweet Onion Citizen Award a few months ago to show honor and recognition to citizens who go above and beyond to serve the community.
