Early voting for tomorrow’s runoff for State House Representative of District 156 ended Friday and early voting in Toombs County was light according to sources.
At 7:00 tomorrow morning, polls in all precincts will open for registered voters to vote in person for Leesa Hagan or Toombs County or Wally Sapp of Appling County to fill the unexpired term of former State Representative Greg Morris who resigned to take another position in State government. No voting will be held at the Election Offices in the counties. All voting must be done at the precincts.
Tuesday’s election is a result of a very close race from June 15 when Hagan garnered 37 votes over Sapp’s but not enough to avoid a runoff. A third candidate in the June election, Democrat Wright Gres, received 702 votes. The person who gets the most votes when the polls close tomorrow night at 7:00, will be the next State Representative of District 156.
Just between Toombs and Montgomery counties, there are over 22,000 registered voters. In the June 15th election, including those portions of Appling and Jeff Davis Counties, only 4,801 ballots were cast.
District 156 covers all of Montgomery and Toombs counties, and parts of Appling and Jeff Davis.
In addition to the runoff for House District 156, voters in Treutlen County will be going to the polls tomorrow to vote in a replacement for Magistrate/Probate Judge between Jeremy B. Jones and Tiffany Wyatt McLendon in a runoff from June 15th. That office was previously vacated by T.J. Hudson who is running to be Georgia’s next Secretary of State. Johnson received 396 votes to McLendon’s 367 votes last month.
All polls will cost at 7:00 and results will be posted as soon as they are known on our website at www.southeastgeorgiatoday.com.
