Vidalia put together its biggest offensive show of the season Thursday evening while winning Game 3 of the important region series against Toombs County by a score of 17-2 in 5 innings.  It was a cold windy evening at Toombs County Field and there were several misplays on high pop flies.  Bryson Whited continued Vidalia’s dominance from the mound pitching all 5 innings while only allowing three hits to pick up his third win of the season.

The Vidalia offense was led by Whited with a solo homerun, 2 singles, 2 runs scored and 3 rbi’s;  Walker Moncus two hits, scored 2 runs and 3 rbi’s; Ty Dalley 2 hits, scored 2 runs and 1 rbi; Hughes Graham 3 walks, 1 hit and scored 3 runs. Landry Mead and Ben Beverly also added two run homers to help power the offensive surge.

The game started out like it might be a close one as the first three Vidalia batters struck out to start the game and then Toombs County was able to scratch out a run in the bottom half to take a 1-0 lead after 1 inning.  Vidalia jumped on top with two runs in the top of the 2nd inning.  Graham led off with a walk, Moncus singled and Tucker Coleman walked loading the bases for Michel Blount who promptly singled home two runs.  Whited set down Toombs County in order in the bottom half of the inning leaving the score 2-1 in favor of Vidalia

Whited led off the 3rd inning with a long homerun.  Dalley followed with a single and then the wheels begin to come off for Toombs County as they walked Graham for the second time, committed three errors in a row and issued two more walks before getting the first out on the ninth batter of the inning.  Whited was up again and singled followed by singles from Dalley and Graham, a double by Moncus and sacrifice fly by Coleman.  When the smoke cleared and the final out was made Vidalia had pushed across 11 more runs.  When Toombs County didn’t score in the bottom half that left Vidalia leading 13-1 after three innings.

Vidalia scored two more runs in the 4th inning on a two run homerun from Mead and then closed out their scoring with a two run homerun from Ben Beverly in the top of the 5th inning.  Toombs County picked up one more run in the bottom of the 5th inning allowing Vidalia to take a 17-2 run rule win and sweep the series giving them a 6-0 start in region play.

Vidalia is now 15-4 on the season and 6-0 in region play.  Next week’s 3 game Region Series will be against East Laurens.
