3 1 21 Hunter School record

The Vidalia Indian Track Teams opened up the season in a big way on Friday night, with The Lady Indians taking first place at the Colony Bank Invitational in Fitzgerald. Despite a number of technical difficulties with the Fitzgerald timing system and the omission of some of the Indian athletes’ performances, the Indians still managed a second-place finish, with Hunter Manning setting a VHS School Record in the Pole Vault.

Manning’s jump of 13’6” bested his old school record by 2 1/2 feet and was good enough for a first-place finish. Michael Madison won both the 100 and 200. His official time in the 100 was not recorded, but he recorded a 21.4 in the 200. Clay Morris Placed 2nd in the 110h and 300 hurdles, and the 4x100 team of Jaedyn Stanley, Sinclair Williams, Tyran Jacobs, Michael Madison placed 1st.

The Lady Indians won the meet in a dominating fashion with a score of 150 points. Valdosta scored 104pts and Coffee scored 99pts. While not all results were officially recorded, the performers for the Lady Indians included Sarah Owen, who placed first in 1600 with a time of 5:42. She also won the 3200 with a time of 12:23.

Myesha Hall placed first in the Long Jump with a mark of 18’6” and the triple jump with a mark of 35’07’. These two ladies also teamed up in the 4x400 meter relay along with Kaitlyn Allen and Kyleigh Johnson for a first-place finish.

Johnson, who was running the 100h for the first time, managed a 2nd place finish while also finishing 2nd in the 300h. Jakerra Mcrae, also running in the 100h for the first time, placed 4th.

Thrower Jasmine Smith racked up two wins with a 32’-foot effort in the shot put and a throw of 99’6” in the discus.

Following the meet, VHS Track Coach Mandy Godbee was beaming with pride after the first meet of the year, “I am very pleased and proud of the overall performance of every athlete. We had some great performances, and it is very early in the season.”

Vidalia will host a 11 team Invitational on Friday of this week (3/5) at Vidalia High School, with the Field Events starting at 4:00 and the running events beginning at 6.(Courtesy of Vidalia High School)
