Altamah EMC DonationLeft to right: George McLendon, District Manager of the Altamaha EMC; Susan McLendon, President of the Southeast Georgia Rural Community Network; Areli Alveres, Secretary of the Southeast Georgia Rural Community Network; Romanus Dotson, General Manager, CEO.

VIDALIA - Thanks to a generous donation by area customers of the Altamaha Electric Membership Corporation (EMC) that was matched by the district EMC Office, women with limited resources for mammograms will be able to receive care. Funds were awarded to the Southeast Georgia Rural Community Network, a local 501 (c)(3) non- profit organization whose mission is to serve rural areas to promote policy, systems, and environmental changes and access to integrated services that promote healthy living and wellness.

The network's Southeast Georgia Breast Health Program serves a ten-county area that displays characteristics similar to many poor rural areas. These characteristics include a high percentage of minority residents, isolation, poverty, negative health indicators, lack of educational attainment, and a struggling rural economy. The breast health program will provide community education outreach for breast health awareness and mammogram screening with some diagnostic services for the region's vulnerable women. Services will target low income (200% of federal poverty level) and uninsured residents of Toombs, Tattnall, Montgomery, Wheeler, Jeff Davis, Appling, Telfair, Candler, Treutlen, and Emanuel counties of southeast Georgia.

More information on the Breast Health Program can be obtained by contacting the network president, Dr. Susan McLendon, Meadows Health Population Health Director, at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
