November 18--The 2020 High School season gets underway this weekend at Parsons-Reid Gymnasium when Vidalia High School hosts the Annual STC Tip-Off Tournament. The Indians and Lady Indians will play host to five different schools playing in seven games over a two day period, Saturday and Tuesday. Along with Vidalia, boy’s teams include West Laurens, Statesboro & Coffee High School. On the girl’s side, West Laurens, Statesboro, Jenkins County, and Vidalia will compete.

The Tournament, which officially opens the 2020 Basketball season, which will see Vidalia play 8 Region 2AA games along with additional games against Tattnall, ECI, Montgomery Co., Wheeler Co., and the Annual Paul Thigpen Christmas Classic.

Vidalia Head Basketball Coach Tommy Dalley, who has led the Indians to the playoffs in all but two of his 13years, says that he is ready to get the season underway. “We are excited about the opportunity to compete. We have a tremendous field set for the STC Tip-Off Classic, so there should be some really exciting games on hand for this early in the season. The girl’s field is also very strong. Our girls bring back a number of players, but it will be a different look for them as they work to make another run at a Region title.”

And although Dalley has high hopes for the season, he realizes there are some potential obstacles in the way, “The start of the year will be very challenging for us due to the tremendous success of our football team. We have 16 kids playing football right now, which will leave us a little shorthanded. We play in the toughest region in the state, so the competition we line up will hopefully prepare us for Region 2AA.”

The action gets underway on Saturday at 2 PM when the West Laurens Girls take on Statesboro. The Vidalia Girls and Jenkins Co. will follow that at 3:30 and the Vidalia and West Laurens Boys at 5:00.
