The weekly public schools COVID-19 reports were released on Friday, and the numbers are a good and bad.

Montgomery County School Superintendent Hugh Kight reports there are no cases of the virus in the students, teachers or staff population in any of the three Montgomery County Schools. Only one 3 students were in quarantine as of Friday. No other staff member is in quarantined.

The Vidalia City School System’s numbers have a little different showing. As of Friday, 4 students have tested positive and 56 students are in quarantine. But as we told you last week, those numbers in quarantine include the 4th grade students at Sally D. Meadows Elementary School who were quarantined for possible exposure of the virus through Friday and those students are expected to return to class today. On a lighter note, only 2 employees are positive and 10 are in quarantined.

The Toombs County School System reports zero students currently positive, 11 students quarantined, 6 employees positive and 2 employees in quarantine.

As the number of cases of COVID-19 in Georgia continue to appear to be rising again as they are across the entire nation, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp again signed an executive order Friday extending a state of emergency. This is the 9th time he’s extended the state of emergency since he originally signed an order on March 14. The latest executive order will be effect until November 30, and all Georgians are asked to follow the same safety rules of wearing a mask, social distance, practice good sanitation methods and avoid large gathering if possible.

Another order that the Gov. Signed Friday gives the Georgia Department of Defense troops the same arrest and apprehension authority as law enforcement officers, but ONLY if needed to protect the safety of persons and property.
