The City of Lyons is working to prevent customers from being surprised when they receive their monthly water bills.
A new online monitoring program will provide real time water consumption reports. Lyons City Manager Jason Hall said in 2019 the city paired with Georgia Power to use their Smart Meter system to monitor consumer water consumption, and last month, the process for customers to be able to access their information online began. According to Hall, each hour the data is updated so that customers who set up an account can see their water in real time including gallons used and the cost.
An account can be set up easily at www.lyonsga.org. A three-minute instructional video provides step-by-step instructions on how to personalize a password-protected account.
Hall said that the funds to implement the new service is provided by Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, and accessing the information online is free to Lyons water customers.
Lyons Mayor Willis NeSmith said he anticipates the new meter system will help customers be more prepared and aware of water consumption and the cost they are being charged each month.
