The weekly stats for COVID-19 in local area schools were released on Friday, and the numbers are positively impressive.

Toombs County School Superintendent Barry Waller reports that as of Friday, there is one student who is currently classified as having tested positive for the virus and 8 students are in quarantine. In addition, one employee has tested positive with two employees in quarantine.

Hugh Kight, Montgomery County School Superintendent, concluded that the weekly figures in that school system show there are no students who have currently testing positive for COVID-19, and 11 young people are in quarantine. One teacher but no other employees of the system are positive; however, one teacher and staff member are in quarantine.

John Koon, Director of Communications for the Vidalia City School System noted on Friday that two students in the system are positive for COVID-19, as well as four employees. As a safety precaution to help deter the spread of the virus, however, 53 students are currently in quarantine as well as 9 employees who may have been exposed to the virus.

On Thursday, Gov. Brian Kemp extended an executive order for the 8th time since he initially signed an order on March 14 of this year. Thursday’s order extends through October 31, with the Gov. encouraging social distancing, hand sanitizing, face masks, and limiting group gatherings to nor more than 50 people in a single location.

The Georgia Department of Public Health’s latest graphs indicate that the number of persons testing positive for COVID-19 is falling, with the pique numbers so far being in late July. Demographically, the largest age category of positive cases were in the 18-29 years age bracket, with the highest number of deaths in persons 80 years of age and older.
