James Edward (Mac) O’Neal Sr., age 86, born on April 24, 1934 in Alston, died October 14, 2020 after a long illness in Lyons.  Mac was raised in Alston and later lived and worked in Savannah and Vidalia.  Mac’s love for cars led to a brief venture into stock car racing which fueld his life-long interest in NASCAR.  He will always be remembered for his sense of humor and his ability to tell a joke and have everyone laughing.  His greatest joy was his family, and he liked nothing more than a weekend cookout surrounded by friends and family.

He is preceded in death by his father, James Wesley O’Neal, and his mother, Lula Bell NeeSmith O’Neal.

Mac is survivied by two daughters, Marquita (Keta) O’Neal Van Blaricom (Brian), Rebecca O’Neal Guthrie, a son James Edward (Eddie) O’Neal Jr., and one brother Gene Wesley O’Neal (Vonnie). Five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive.

A family graveside service for James Edward (Mac) O’Neal will be held Friday, October 16, 2020 at 5:00 pm at Cedar Crossing Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Reece Mincey officiating.  Interment will follow.
