The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has solved the case of an Evans County man missing since early July in what is believed to be “suspicious circumstances.”
Leon Mayner, age 69, of Claxton was reported missing on July 7, and the Evans County Sheriff’s Office requested the GBI to assist with a missing person investigation.
On Monday, October 5, skeletal remains were found across from Lovett Mobile Home Park in Claxton, the location where Mayner was last seen. Evidence found at the scene indicates that the remains are those of Mayner, but at this point the cause of death is unknown. The remains and evidence were sent to the GBI Crime Lab.
Anyone with information is asked to contact GBI Special Agent in Charge John Durden in the Statesboro Office of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation at 912-871-1121.
