Mr. Ricky Spivey, age 72 of Soperton, passed away on Saturday afternoon, October 3, 2020 at Community Hospice in Vidalia, with his family by his side.
Born in Dublin, he was one of three children born to the late Jack and Avie Lou Geiger Spivey. He grew up in Soperton and was a graduate of Soperton High School, Class of 1967. After high school he worked as a Depot Agent and Operator for Seaboard Coastline Railroad until retiring in Vidalia in the late 1980s. Following his retirement from the railroad he established and successfully operated the Vidalia 10 Minute Lube. He sold the business and retired again in 2000. Mr. Spivey returned to Treutlen County in 1992.
An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, tinkering on cars and especially listening to old country music.
Mr. Spivey leaves behind his former wife, Mary Alice Meeks Spivey, Vidalia, GA, his children, Lisa Spivey Chesser (Hal), Vidalia, GA, Angie Spivey Friddle (Pete), Greenville, SC, Rachel Spivey Towery (Tommy), Vidalia, GA, Sgt. Jack Ricky Spivey (Edith), presently serving in the United States Army and stationed at Wheeler Army Air Field on Oahu, HI, his brother, Russell Spivey, and his sister, Kathy Spivey Kelly (Brad), all of Soperton, GA, five grandchildren, Taylor Towery, Abbie Chesser, Doug Chesser, Bailey Collins, Anastasia Spivey and a nephew Roman Joyce.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Monday, October 5, 2020 from the graveside in Midway Church Cemetery with Reverend Ray Wood officiating.
Mr. Spivey will be laid to rest beside his parents.
