While things are happening in the City of Lyons on the second weekend of October, there will be another national event being observed and the timing couldn't be more perfect!
Lyons Chief of Police Wesley Walker said the dates for the barbecue events coincides with Faith & Blue weekend, and his department will be making the most of the weekend in an attempt to reach as many people as possible.
Faith & Blue weekend was designed to bridge the gap between communities and law enforcement. In doing so, the Lyons Police Department will set up a booth in downtown Lyons Friday night of The Real Squeal to meet folks, pass out literature and T-shirts, and have a gospel group and local pastors on-hand to speak to those who come by. The same format will continue of Saturday in Partin Park where The Real Squeal and Faith & Blue will continue.
On Sunday, a communitywide church service is planned to begin at 6:00 in "The Pit" in Lyons, and Chief Walker said local churches will be coming together for a united church service. The community is encouraged to attend.
The Faith & Blue weekend is sponsored locally by the Lyons Police Department and faith-based organizations in Lyons.
