September 19—The Vidalia Indians didn’t start the season the way they wanted to Friday night with a 14-8 loss to the ECI Bulldogs in Twin City.

ECI controlled the ball on offense all game long especially at the start of the game but committed a lot of offensive penalties. The Bulldogs could not score until the second quarter on a 22-yard touchdown pass to Kris Jackson from QB Chase Whitehead with 10:51 remaining to make the score 7-0 Bulldogs at the half.

The Indians defense was on the field for most of the first half. Vidalia struggled on offense and ran 19 plays in the first half and picked up their only first down of the half on their third possession.

The Bulldogs would control the clock in the third quarter with the Indians defense staying on the field for most of the period. The third quarter ended with ECI still up 7-0.

At the start of the fourth quarter the Indians defense would continue to keep Vidalia in the game after stopping the Bulldogs offense with two sacks. ECI punted from their own 16-yard line out to mid-field however Antrevion Williams muffed the punt with the Bulldogs recovering the ball.

PJ Farnum would score for the Bulldogs a couple of plays later on a long 45-yard scamper with 7:15 left in the game and after the extra point put ECI up 14-0.

The Indians took the ensuing kickoff and returned it to the 45-yard line and went to work on offense. QB Bryce Davis and RB Jayden Stanley moved the Indians down the field and finished off a 55-yard drive with Stanley scoring on a 16-yard run with 6:30 remaining. Davis took the ball into the end zone on the two-point conversion to make the score 14-8 ECI

The Vidalia defense held ECI and their next offensive possession and forced the Bulldogs to punt at mid-field. The Bulldogs would back the Indians up to their own 1-yard line after a 50-yard punt.

The Vidalia offense would only pickup one first down on their last possession and on a fourth down pass play from Davis was incomplete and the Bulldogs took over and ran out the clock to make the final score 14-8 ECI.

Vidalia will host Bleckley County next Friday night at Buck Cravey Field at 7:30. You can hear the game on WTCQ-FM, 97.7, Classic Hits, 98Q.
