The Treutlen Vikings home opener versus the Montgomery County Eagles didn’t go their way as the visiting Eagles pulled away in the second half for a 31 – 7 victory at Bobby Driggers Stadium in Soperton Friday night.
After a defensive struggle for most of the first quarter, Montgomery County broke the ice with 2:55 left in the first quarter when Bo Davidson hit Brandon Denmark on a short pass in the right flat and Denmark found the sideline and scampered 65 yards for the touchdown. The PAT attempt was wide left and the Eagles led 6 – 0. Montgomery County carried that lead into the half as well.
Denmark scored again with 11:35 remaining in the third quarter when he ran 75 yards for his second touchdown on the night. The 2 point conversion was unsuccessful and the Eagles led 12 – 0.
Treutlen scored their only time of the night on a 3 yard run by QB Logan Hughes with 6:50 left in the third quarter. The Chris Mincey PAT was good and the Vikings cut the lead to 12 – 7 but could get no closer. With 2:50 left in the third quarter, Kristan Boyer scored on a 44 yard run for the Eagles. The PAT was wide left again and Montgomery County led 18 – 7.
