Mrs. Sandra Lee Dowd, age 50, of Vidalia, died Friday, August 14, 2020, in the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida after an extended illness. She was a native of Toombs County and lived in Vidalia most of her life. She was a paraprofessional at J.D. Dickerson Primary School in Vidalia for several years and currently was working at CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate for Children). She was a member of the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Kibbee, and Sandra enjoyed baking, crafts and working with children. She was preceded in death by her mother, Faye Geiger; and the grandmother who raised her, Clara Mae Turner.
Mrs. Dowd is survived by her husband of twenty-two years, Glenn Dowd of Vidalia; two sons, Keith Dowd of Claxton, and Joshua Dowd and wife Victoria of Lyons; one sister, Susie Joyner of Thomson; two brothers, Adam Joyner of Vidalia, and Doug Joyner and wife Ingrid of Thomson; two grandchildren, Brantley Dowd and Clara-Ann Dowd; four special cousins, Gary Soley, Dennis Joyner, Bobby Joyner and Diana Joyner; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 until 5:00.
The funeral service will be held Monday, August 17th, at 10:00 a.m. in the Liberty Baptist Church in Lyons with Pastor Gaynor Ridgdill and Pastor Michael Plowman officiating. Burial will follow in the Smyrna United Methodist Church Cemetery.

As a result of COVID-19 and for everyone’s protection, the family has requested that CDC Guidelines be followed, including Social Distancing. Though wearing a mask is not mandatory, it is suggested that it be worn at the visitation and funeral service.
