7 29 20 VHS Track Team

The Vidalia High School Track Program has been awarded $2000.00 as one of 46 winners of the POWERADE® Power Your School program. The program is designed to make an impact and build relationships with teens, parents, coaches, and high schools in local communities. The goal is to power the next generation of athletes to reach their full potential.

Last fall, POWERADE™, allowed students to craft and submit a video or essay detailing why their school's athletic program or team should be awarded up to $2,000 and how they will utilize the prize to enhance programs and opportunities.

Coach Mandy Godbee along with help from Vidalia High School Video Team, led by instructor Jackson Sharpe and Carrie Beth Davis, produced a video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9WA4Liw0sqg) showing the Vidalia Boys Track Team working out and enjoying POWERADE™ during the workouts. Godbee followed with a narrative describing the program's financial need and says that she never gave it a second thought after the video was shot. "When we shot the video, I was hopeful that it might win something because these kids deserve to have the financial backing they need to compete, but after all these months, I figured we didn't win. Then on Tuesday, we got the notice that we had won $2000.00! I can't tell you how excited we are; we are over the top about the Cash award. We are truly blessed to have our VHS Video team leading the way for this opportunity."

Teams can use the $2,000 awards as they see fit to help them achieve at a higher level. Past winners have purchased new equipment, uniforms and gear, improved practice facilities, and even covered transportation costs to and from games.

"The impact POWERADE® POWER YOUR SCHOOL has made on high school athletes is both impressive and heartwarming," said Melanie Clark, Corporate Senior Director of Marketing at Coca-Cola UNITED. "POWERADE® and Coca-Cola UNITED are part of our local communities. These are the places we work and live, and we believe that stronger schools lead to stronger communities," she added.

This year, 46 schools within the Coca-Cola UNITED footprint won a Grand Prize of $2,000 for a total of $92,000 for athletic programs. Any high school sports program across Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, and Florida was eligible. (Courtesy of Vidalia High School)
