Montgomery County has hired a new boys’ basketball coach to lead the Eagles for the 2020-2021 season. Coach Jimmy Williams comes to Montgomery County from East Laurens High School. Williams has over three decades in education and recently retired from Laurens County Board of Education. His retirement was short lived as he will serve as an assistant principal at MCHS while he attempts to lead the Eagles back to the playoffs on the hardwood. From 1999-2012, Williams led the East Laurens Falcons to 14 consecutive playoff appearances, with three of those seasons resulting in births in the state championship.
Athletic Director, Tim Suttles, had this to say about the hiring of Coach Jimmy Williams, “Coach Williams’ success on the court speaks for itself. There is no doubt that he is a good basketball coach so we were certainly pleased that we would be getting someone that knows the game and has a proven track record of success. Now that I have spent enough time around Coach Williams I am even more excited that we were able to hire someone that will be a strong positive influence on our guys. I like many others in Montgomery County look forward to getting to work with Coach Williams this year.”
"I have been out of basketball for about six years and I am really excited about going to the Eagles and taking that challenge on and building the program up. We do have the ultimate goal of making it to the state playoffs. The Eagles have always had potentially good players and we want to be competitive with Treutlen and now also Dublin since they have moved down to Class A. I cannot wait to get started." Coach Williams said.
