IMG 0272Mr. Verlin David Nelms, 74, of Glenwood passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin, GA.  He was born in Wheeler County June 24, 1946 to the late Samuel and Florence Brown Nelms.  Mr. Nelms enjoyed attending church at Mt. Vernon Pentecostal Church, where he was a member.  He loved gardening, growing flowers, reading, picking strawberries, and especially eating Reeseā€™s Peanut Butter Cups.  Mr. Nelms loved to spend time with his family and friends, but he enjoyed babysitting his grandchildren most of all.  He will be greatly missed by so many. 

He is survived by his wife: Grace Lawrence Nelms; two sons: Joseph Nelms Sr. (Melissa) of Glenwood and Phillip Nelms Sr. (Amanda) of Glenwood; six grandchildren: Joseph Nelms Jr. (Katie), Leah Cormier (Daniel), Selina Yopp (Gilbert), Westen Nelms, Phillip Nelms Jr. (Kayla), and Lathia Nelms; two great-grandchildren: Joel Nelms and Jonathan Cormier; six siblings: Aaron Nelms of Rincon, Larry Nelms of Mt. Vernon, Faye Fields of VA, Vanzie Gillis of Glenwood, Roberta Leggett of Glenwood, and Vinnie West of Glenwood. 

A graveside service will be held 9:00 A.M., Friday, July 24, 2020 at the Alamo City Cemetery. The family will be holding a memorial service, 11:00 A.M., at Mt. Vernon Pentecostal Church following the interment. 

Towns Funeral Home of Alamo is in charge of arrangements.
