During the regular monthly meeting of the Vidalia City School Board of Education, it was decided to move the start of school back one week, from Friday, July 31st to Friday, August 7th.

The move was made to prepare for additional safety protocols as related to COVID-19, and also to allow teachers an extra week to prepare for online learning instruction, an option offered by the school system for those who may not want to return to the traditional face-to-face model.

“We felt that an extra week of preparation for our teachers would be prudent, considering we don’t know at this point how many online students we will have at each school,” said Superintendent Dr. Garrett Wilcox.

The Board was also told about a “Back to School Plan,” which was crafted by the System’s Leadership Team, which includes daily temperature checks, extensive sanitizing, and limiting the interaction of students, among other mandates. The entire plan may be viewed by going to the system’s website at www.vidaliacityschools.org
