Ms. Christine Shiflett Martin (Lowe), 91, passed away Saturday, June 13, 2020 at The Oaks-Bethany in Vidalia, GA. She was born January 21, 1929 in Hahira, GA to the late Hugh L. Shiflett and Myrtice Harris Shiflett. Ms. Christine worked as a secretary at Montgomery County Elementary School as well as a paraprofessional in the high school media center from 1966 to 1998. She enjoyed cooking and was especially well known for her divinity and her special cheese grits. After her retirement, she enjoyed traveling with Excursions travel agency. She was a member of Uvalda United Methodist Church and active in the United Methodist Women’s Society. Loving mother, grandmother, cousin, and friend, Ms. Christine will be missed by many.
She is survived by two daughters: Carol Clark (Kim) of Waynesboro, GA and Kay Martin of Uvalda, GA; two grandchildren: Kelly Clark Quick (Greg) of Waynesboro, GA and Curtis Martin Clark (Meghan) of Columbia, SC; two great grandchildren: Morgan Quick Chavous (Shay) and Dalton Quick (fiancé, Hannah); two great, great grandchildren: Sawyer Chavous and Lennox Chavous; cousin, Linda Rogers; numerous beloved nieces and nephews; and her loving caregivers, Wanda McLeod and Alexis Anthony. She was preceded by her husband: Ralph Martin; her brothers: Otis Shiflett and Al Shiflett; sisters: Laurene Griffin and Wilma Brasel.
A graveside service will be held Monday, June 15, 2020 at 11:00am in the Uvalda City Cemetery and will be officiated by Shareon Womack. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Uvalda United Methodist Church.
