Toombs County Election Supervisor Carrie Alligood has announced that anyone wishing to vote in person may do this Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Board of Elections Office on Lincoln Street in Lyons. The Office will also be opened during regular hours on Monday - Friday of next week, and CDC recommendations in regards to COVID-19 are being strictly followed.
Alligood said on Wednesday of this week that 454 individuals have voted in person so far at her office, and 1,662 absentee ballots have been received via mail at her office. Another 1,700 absentee ballots were mailed to Toombs County voters and have not been returned yet. Alligood said anyone who requested and received an absentee ballot may still vote in person, but that absentee ballots has to be cancelled through the proper channels before casting votes.
"People can have that absentee ballot canceled at the precincts, but it's much less time consuming if we do it from our office," she said.
Early voting began on Monday, May 18, and the last day to early vote in the June 9 General Primary is Friday, June 5.
