The City of Lyons has been ranked #18 of the Top 50 Safest Cities in Georgia by Safe Wise. The organization utilizes statistical information gathered by the FBI, and ranks cities in each state across the country. In Georgia 127 cities were considered for placement.

Not only did Lyons place #18, the statistics moved the city up 92 places from the last report, more than any other city in the state. 

Lyons Chief of Police Wesley Walker said he is pleased that a smaller city like Lyons made such an accomplishment, but says the credit goes to his officers.

"I think it's attributed to the hiring of good, qualified officers who know how to do their jobs and go out and do," Chief Walker said. "Our officers are more visible now than they used to be, and I believe that helps deter crime. I am very pleased with the results of this study by Safe Wise."
