May 26—At Vidalia High School Indians Track and Field standout Jesi McRae signed a letter of intent for a scholarship to run track at Savannah State. Jesi began running track in the 8th grade and this was his fifth year competing. In 2017 he was a member of the State Championship team. In 2018 he was a member of the Region 2-AA Runner-Up team and on the 4x400 team that finished 7th at the GHSA State Championship meet. As a junior a member of the Region Championship team and placing 8th at the State Championship meet in the 300 Hurdles, 4th in the 4x100 Relay and 6th on the 4x400 Relay team.

“I chose Savannah State because it is close to home and they offer Civil Engineering what I want to earn a degree in. I want to thank my family, teammates and coaches for helping me reach this point. I feel like I can go there and run the hurdles and be a contender.” McRae said.

VHS Head Track Coach Mandy Godbee, “I am so proud of Jesi he has had his sights set on furthering his athletic career and education since the eighth grade. He has remained focused and pays attention to details and that is what it takes to develop into an excellent hurdler. I don’t think he could have been beat at state this year in 100 and 300 Hurdles. He was just dominating the field this season. His future is so bright in this sport and I cannot wait to watch he is going to do at Savannah State.”

“I am very proud of him. I want to thank the school and coaches for all the support they gave him. He is a hard worker and hopeful he will get a degree in Civil Engineering and bring home a few titles on the way.” Jesi McRae Sr. said.5 21 20 VHS McRae
