MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga.- Senior Rebecca Lawrence (Vidalia) of the Georgia College Softball Team is an amazing scholar-athlete with several academic accolades in her college career, this lefthander adds another big one this weekend. Lawrence has been chosen to serve Georgia College as one of the valedictorians for this year's spring graduating class.
Lawrence has a 4.0 GPA in political science earning her spot on the valedictorian list. Once she graduates this spring, she will go on to attend law school at Mercer University. In her career she has thrown 183.3 innings with a 3.59 ERA. She has also claimed 54 appearances in the circle for the Bobcats, hauling in 124 strikeouts.
A two-time Peach Belt (PCB) All-Academic team member and a two-time PBC Gold Scholar, Lawrence is a well decorated student-athlete. Lawrence was also named the PBC Softball Elite 15 honoree for 2020.
"Becca has been outstanding in every way," said GC Director of Athletics Wendell Staton. "I saw her pitch for about five minutes in the fall of her freshman year and it was her poise that was the most impressive. She carries that clam and analytical approach into every aspect of her life. Success awaits her at every turn, and we are thrilled that she is a lifelong Bobcat!"
Lawrence is in good company as six other Bobcat student-athletes have been named valedictorians in as many years. These athletes' range over a variety of sports at Georgia College including softball with former teammate Hannah Coursey (2018) being named to the list in 2018. Last year's honor went to GC Cross Country's Sarah Wilder (2019). Previous honorees include both Shanteona Keys (2015) and Kayla Upchurch (2015) from Women's Basketball as well as Ally Barys (2016) in soccer.(Courtesy of Georgia College State University)
