March 14-- Mrs. Billie Higgs Jones, age 89, of Lyons, passed away Friday, March 13, 2020, at Community Hospice of Vidalia after a brief illness.
Mrs. Jones was a 1947 graduate of Lyons High School. She and her husband, U.S. Jones, were the former owners and operators of Trapnell-Jones Funeral Home, later known as Jones-Stewart Funeral Home. Mrs. Jones retired as secretary from the Toombs County Sheriff’s Department after many years of service. Her happiest times were spent cooking for family and friends, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grands.
She was an active member of the Lyons Garden Club and was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She was a member of Lyons First Baptist Church, where she attended Faith Sunday school class.
Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband, U.S. Jones; her parents, William and Della Harden Higgs; and nine siblings.
She is survived by three children, Melanie (James) Clark of Baxley, Michele (Marshall) Mosley of Lyons, and Jeff Jones of Tucker, GA; five grandchildren, Carson Clark of Vidalia, Kristen Clark of Statesboro, Kara Clark of Dublin, Kathryn (Justin) Smith of Lyons, and Trey (Cali) Mosley of Lyons; and four great grandchildren, Emerson, Knox, and Britton Smith, and Hallie Anna Mosley.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Billie Higgs Jones will be held Sunday, March 15, 2020, at Lyons First Baptist Church at 3:00 PM with Reverend George Holcomb and Reverend Trent Akins officiating. Interment will follow at Lyons City Cemetery with Reverend Robert Wigley officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation Saturday, March 14, 2020, at Toombs County Funeral Home from 5-7 PM.
