February 28—For the second year in a row the Treutlen Vikings punched their ticket to the State Championship in Macon. The Vikings held on to defeat the Terrell County Green Wave 68 to 63 Friday afternoon at the Semi-Finals of the GHSA Class A State Basketball Playoffs at Valdosta State University.

The Vikings jumped out to a lead early and led 24-15 at the end of the first quarter and led 40-30 at the half. Terrell County outscored Treutlen 20-8 in the third period and took the lead and led 50-48 at the end of the period. The Vikings came back in the fourth period and hit some big free throws down the stretch to get the win.

Christopher Floyd led the way in scoring for the Vikings with 21 points. James Byrd had 13 points and Sabo Mitchell scored 10 points.

Treutlen improves to 30-0 and will play Hancock Central for the state title at the Macon Centreplex Wednesday at 8PM. You can hear the game on WYUM, 1017 FM, Sweet Onion Country. (Picture by Mike Branch)
