Feb. 24-- Mrs. Montez Johnson Edge, age 88, beloved wife of the late Vernon L. Edge of Glenwood passed away on Friday evening, February 21, 2020 at Community Hospice in Vidalia, Georgia.
Born in Coffee County, she was one of eight children born to the late Frank James Johnson and Charity Lounette Horne. She was raised in the Douglas area before moving to Wheeler County to be near family. In 1948 she married Vernon L. Edge, a native of Wheeler County. Mrs. Edge worked as a Machine Operator at the Woolen Mill and the Shirt Factory for over forty years before retiring. Affectionately known as “Granny”, after retiring from the textile industry she cared for many of the next generation of her community’s children. She loved to crochet, garden and grow day lilies.
She and her husband had been longtime members of Beulah Baptist Church where she was a member of the adult choir.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, a son, Donnie Edge and a grandson, Dennis Edge.
Mrs. Edge leaves behind her children, David Edge, Denise Johnson, Dennis Edge, all of Glenwood, two sisters, Patsy Floyd and Bernice Griffin, both of Brunswick, GA, grandchildren, Angie Hooks (Wayne), Sabrina Coleman (Brandon), Lamar Edge, Kendra Pickle (Dale), great grandchildren, Brynna Coleman, Brylen Goss, Gracie Edge, Bradley Edge, Elaina Edge, Peyton Pickle, Denton Pickle, Kelton Pickle, Weston Pickle, Keaton Pickle and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, February 26, 2020 at Beulah Baptist Church, Glenwood with Reverend John Daughtry and Reverend Clarence Best officiating.
Mrs. Edge will be laid to rest beside her husband in the Edge Family Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be: Brandon Coleman, Wayne Hooks, Chris Williams, Denton Pickle, Kelton Pickle and Dale Pickle.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Sam Floyd, Bobby Griffin, Brylen Goss, Weston Pickle, Keaton Pickle, Harvey Bright, Nat Wynn and Larry Avery.
Her family will receive on Monday from 6:00 – 8:00 at Sammons Funeral Home or friends may call at the home of Wayne And Angie Hooks.
