Voters of Ward 2 Post 3 in the City of Reidsville won’t have to cast a ballot in November for who will represent them on the city council. Mayor Vickie Nail said Wednesday that after qualifying ended, only one candidate, Nicole Gibbs Balkcom, had tossed her proverbial hat into the ring and has no opposition.
Balkcom retired from the Tattnall County School System, but still works part-time in the system. She also teaches evening classes at Coastal Plains Charter High School. She is married to Robert Balkcom and mother of two sons.
The sole candidate for the office will fill the seat vacated by Donald Prestage who resigned effective June 30.
"I am confident that her lifelong connection to our community, her experience in education, and her commitment to serving others will be a wonderful addition to our council," Mayor Nail said. "We look forward to working with her as we continue serving our community and planning for Reidsville's future."
Balkcom will be sworn in on Friday, September 4, at 2:00 in the Reidsville City Hall Chambers.
