The Candler County Commissioners are attempting to squash rumors about a data center being built in the county.

County Administrator Bryan Aasheim issued an official statement Friday noting that information being passed around on social media regarding the development of any data center and the potential of a site of such a center is false.

According to the County Administrator, the Candler County Board of Commissioners have not been approached by any developer, company or data center operator regarding a data center, and said that no general agreement or non-disclosure agreements have been executed. Additionally, the Board of Commissioner have had no meetings, discussion, or requests for any zoning changes for any parcel of land abut a data center project. County Administrator Aasheim said development of any commercial site within the Board’s jurisdiction including a data center would require rezoning and public notice and hearings would have to be held with meetings held for public deliberations.

Aasheim said if the Board receives a request for rezoning, the public can expect notifications and information to be publicly presented without exception.
