November 4-- With an excellent end to the season, the VHS Cross Country teams both ran well at the GHSA State Championships on Saturday, November 2nd. The boys finished in 5th place behind Oglethorpe, Union, Bleckley and Banks County. While the boys were hoping for better results, they ran exceptionally well with Cole Register placing 7th and making the podium for the first time with at time of 17:45. The next 5 runners for VHS stayed together in a pack and pulled each other through with honorable times for this challenging course.

The Ladies were not ranked coming into the championships but stepped up huge with numerous personal bests and knocked several teams out of position, finishing 7th place. Sarah Owen led the Lady Indians with Isabella Holloway just behind her running sub 24 once again. Kaitlyn Allen, Allie Whitaker and Ashley Hammock kept their times in the 24 minute range.  Ashley Hammock had the biggest personal best of the day. Coach Mandy Godbee said, “She is a freshman that has worked extremely hard and performed well when things got tight. She was an integral factor in the team placing. While the boys were expected to place, the ladies blew us all away. I can only imagine what they will be able to do next year with all 7 runners returning.” 11 4 19 VHS CC Girls

“It has been an excellent season for both teams Coach Palmer and Coach Martin were very much appreciated with their dedication and sacrifices they have made for the teams. A special thank you goes out to them and all of our supporting parents.” Godbee said.
