October 4-- The Montgomery County Eagles took advantage of 7 Viking turnovers, 5 on their first 6 possessions to defeat Treutlen 40 – 26 at Bobby Driggers Stadium in Soperton Friday night. Eagle linebacker Kentarius Allen returned 3 fumbles for touchdowns to lead the Eagles.  At halftime Logan Powell was crowned Homecoming Queen.

Montgomery County scored on the second play of their first possession when Jakobe Russell sprinted 75 yards with 8:11 left in the first quarter. The PAT was good and the Eagles led 7 – 0. That’s when the wheels came off the Viking offense. After punting on their first possession, the Vikings fumbled 4 times and threw 1 interception on their next 5 possessions. The Eagles used the turnovers to build a 26 – 0 lead with 2:26 left in the second quarter.

A bad snap on an Eagle punt attempt gave the Vikings the ball at the Eagle 25 yard line and Treutlen QB Sabo Mitchell scored 4 plays later on a 5 yard run with just 44 seconds before the half to cut the lead to 26 – 6 in favor of Montgomery County.

The Vikings then recovered an onside kick and scored again just 33 seconds later when Sabo Mitchell found wide receiver Kam Jordan on a 32 yard pass. The two point run attempt on the conversion was no good and the Vikings had cut the lead to 26 – 12 at halftime.

With 5:32 remaining in the third quarter Eagle QB Bo Davidson hit Xavier Brantley on a 31 yard scoring strike to extend the lead to 32 – 12 as the PAT attempt was no good.

Treutlen answered with a touchdown run of 26 yards by Sabo Mitchell with a successful 2 point conversion run by Mitchell and a 10 yard pass from Mitchell to Kamron Jordan cutting the lead to 32 – 26 with 10:17 remaining in the game.

The Eagles put the game away with 8:07 left when Ty Roundtree rumbled 22 yards for a touchdown with the 2 point conversion pass successful to make the final 40 – 26 in favor of the Eagles.

The Vikings fall to 3-3 on the year and Montgomery County goes to 3 – 2 on the season. The Vikings will host the ECI Bulldogs next Friday night for Senior Night at Bobby Driggers Stadium with kickoff at 7:30.
