April 11—Wednesday night, the Toombs County soccer teams played host to Metter in the 1st round of the Region 2AA tournament.  The #3 seeded Lady Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead over the #6 seed Metter, and led 8-1 at halftime.  In a shortened 2nd half, the girls managed to put 2 more goals away, winning by a score of 10-1.

In the 2nd match, the #4 seed Toombs County Bulldogs scored 5 minutes into the match, and let 3-0 at the break.  Toombs County put 2 more goals away in the 2nd half to complete a 5-0 victory over the Metter Tigers.  Both of these wins advance the Toombs County teams into the 3rd/4th place matches.

Coach Jeremy Moore had this to say: "I feel like we have been getting better all season and I feel like both teams played complete matches last night. We picked a great night to play really well, since a berth in the GHSA state playoffs was on the line. The kids knew what they were playing for, and played like the really wanted to qualify for the state tournament.  The girls were finishing goals better than they have all year, and the boys were moving the ball around really well, stringing passes together, and controlling the ball more, which is what we have been working really hard on all year.  It feels great to have both teams back in the state tournament this year"

The Lady Bulldogs will play Jeff Davis Thursday at 5:00 PM at the Toombs County Middle School Soccer Field.  The boys are awaiting the winner of the Jeff Davis-Bacon County match this evening.  If Jeff Davis wins, Toombs will travel to Jeff Davis Friday afternoon.  If Bacon wins, Bacon will travel to Toombs County Friday.4 11 19 Crystal Morales
