The Vidalia Indians scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning and got an 11 strikeout performance from Sophomore Landry Mead, as they defeated the Swainsboro Tigers 5-2, Tuesday in Vidalia. With the win the Indians move to 8-2 overall and 3-0 in Region 2AA play, while Head Coach Brent Korn picked up his 300th career win. 3 13 19 Matt Moye

It was a game plagued with errors, with Vidalia committing 5 and Swainsboro 3. Despite the problems on defense, Mead was able to hold the Tigers to just 2 hits while recording no earned runs.

Neither team was able to muster up much offense through the first three innings. But in the top of the 4th, the Tigers would get on the board when the Indian defense committed two errors which led to a single run, to make the score 1-0 Swainsboro.

The Indians would answer in the bottom of the inning, when Michael  Blount would get his first of two hits on the day with a leadoff single. Hughes Graham would then lay a bunt down on the right side moving Blount to second on the sacrifice. Jordan Walden and Matt Moyer would then earn back to back walks to load the bases and Garrett Gillis would get hit by a pitch to  score Blount to make the score 1-1. Freshman Bryce Davis would follow with a solid single scoring Walden to make the score 2-1. The Indians now had runners at second and third and were hoping to add another run, but a fly ball to right field by Bryson Whited was fielded by RF Tyler Brinson who fired a strike to home nailing a tagging Matt Moye at the plate.

In the 5th, Swainsboro would get their second unearned run of the night when the Indians committed two more errors and Mead threw a wild pitch with Kade Youmans on third allowing the junior to score Swainsboro's 2nd run to tie the game at 2-2.

But in the bottom of the fifth inning Vidalia would strike for 3 runs to give them the lead for good. With one out in the 5th, Dawson Ricks was hit by a pitch, which was followed by Blount's second hit of the game, a line drive double which moved Ricks to third. Hughes Graham would then hit a ground ball to the Swainsboro shortstop which he couldn't handle allowing Ricks to score to make it 3-2 Vidalia. Then with two outs Matt Moye  doubled off the left field fence, scoring Graham and Blount,  to make the score 5-2.

Mead would then face the minimum in the 6th and 7th innings, striking out two and getting some stellar defensive play from Whited, Blount and company to seal the win.

On the day Blount and Mead each ended the day with 2 hits a piece, while Moye led the way with 2 RBIs.
