The J R Trippe Chiefs baseball team continued their winning ways with a region victory over Bleckley County by a score of 7-4. It was a home game for the Chiefs and the only one they would get to play this week due to the Thursday game with Swainsboro being rescheduled due to the Vidalia Indians playing the basketball state championship in Macon.

Bleckley County started off quickly in the first inning with a triple and single plating the first run of the game. Tucker McDonald who was on the hill for the Chiefs settled down after the two hits getting a strikeout to end the inning. The Chiefs got the run right back in the bottom half of the inning with Kaleb Bennett leading off with a double and scoring on a single by Walker Moncus. In the second inning Bleckley went down quietly and even though the Chiefs threatened by loading the bases they did not score either. In the third inning Bleckley scored two more runs with another single and triple followed by an error. The Chiefs were also able to plate two runs as Moncus led off the inning with a single and later scored on a Cason Banks single and moving to second on an error by the center fielder. Banks scored from second on some good hustle as a passed ball careened off the back stop and up the third base line. The third inning ended with the game tied at 3-3.

The Chiefs took control in the fourth as McDonald struck out the side in the top of the inning. In the bottom of the inning Morgan Moye led off with a single and moved to second on a single by Carson Ricks. After a fielder’s choice play got an out at third McDonald drew a walk loading the bases for Moncus who delivered a two RBI single. Both runners moved up on the throw to the plate and that allowed McDonald to score the third run of the inning on a RBI ground out by Sloan Fountain. That put the Chiefs up 6-3 after four innings. Neither team could score in the fifth but the Chiefs were able to pick up another run in the sixth as Bennett led off with a single, stole second and scored on Moncus’s fourth hit and RBI of the game making the score 7-3 going to the top of the seventh where Bleckley was able to pick up one more run on a hit, error and a couple of ground outs but that was all they got as McDonald picked up the last out with his 15th strikeout of the game.

The Chiefs go to 6-0 on the season 3-0 in the region with the win. McDonald pitched a complete game for the win while striking out 15 men. The offense was led by Moncus 4-4 (4 RBI), Bennett, Moye and Ricks all going 2-3. Chiefs baseball continues this coming week with a big game at home against West Laurens and an away game at East Laurens.
