February 6-- The Robert Toombs Christian Academy wrestling team finished 5th as a team this past weekend at the GISA State Wrestling Tournament at Georgia Southwestern in Americus. The Crusaders were the only AA school that finished in the Top 10.

Blaine Miller became the first two-time State Champion in school history, finishing the year a perfect 27-0 in the 220 lb. weight class. Blaine was dominant at State with none of his matches making it past the first minute of the first period on his way to the Championship.

Adam Edwards won the State Championship in the 145 lb. weight class and finished the year at 28-2. Adam had a war in the semifinal match against a solid wrestler from Gatewood, winning 8-7. That sent Edwards into the Championship where he took the title with a first period pin.

At 285 Jody Graham finished as State Runner-up. Graham exceeded expectations as a first year wrestler and Coach Thomas Smith said they are very excited to have him again next year with some experience.

Justin Dees finished as State Runner-up at 120 and had one of the most exciting matches of the tournament in the finals against his opponent from Windsor Academy. The match went all three periods, but Dees lost the close match by decision.

Jacob Edwards finished 3rd at 132 as a 9th grader and had a tremendous season for a freshman. Hannah Keene finished her wrestling career on the podium again as she placed 5th in the 106 lb. class. After a great middle school season Kenny Anderson qualified for State and wrestled well but didn't place at 170.

Coach Smith said, “I am super proud of this group of wrestlers and all of the hard work is paying off. We finished with four in the finals and two State Champions, it was a good year.. I want to thank Coach J.D. Rogers for all of the work he put in with the team, he was a huge part of our success this year as well."
