January 28-- The Vidalia Indians traveled to Birmingham, Alabama to compete in their first ever indoor track meet.  The LAST CHANCE INVITATIONAL is a highly competitive, track meet with nearly 100 athletes in every event including athletes from 5 states.

The Indians got to open up their season with some great performances.  Senior Robert Brown competed in the shot put placing 6th.  Sprinters Kahlil Jones led the way for the sprinters placing 10th, Raymond Collins placed 11th.  Senior Cailyn Jordan competed in track and field for the first time ever placing 15th.  This group of sprinters added Jesi McRae to the team and placed 3rd out of 28 teams in the 4x200m Relay.  Jamarcus Adams, Jesi McRae, Kahlil Jones and Markell Parrish joined forces to place 7th in the 4x400m Relay.

Junior hurdler Jesi McRae put in an exceptional performance at this meet placing 2nd in the 60m hurdles out of 70+ hurdlers.  “I have had the opportunity to watch Jesi from the beginning of his hurdle career and develop into an extremely talented hurdler. His future looks bright in the hurdle and sprint events.” Coach Mandy Godbee said.

Other competitors running well at this meet for the Indians included Markell Parrish, Chason Brogdon and Luke Palmer.  Markell and Chason ran the 800m and ran it several seconds faster than their season opener last year.  Chason also competed in the 1600 meter with a career personal best of 4:55.  Luke Palmer competed in the 1600m and the 3200m earning a personal best in both events.

“With a huge season opener, placing against the best in five states, I am very excited to see what this season will bring for these talented athletes and the rest of the team.  I believe this is a very diverse team with athletes capable of placing in nearly every event.  The Indians are ready to work and compete and hit the track to begin the outdoor season March 1st at Southeast Bulloch.  I have no doubt this will be a successful season!” Coach Godbee stated.
