The Toombs team defeated Jeff Davis 57-24 in the second match of the day. Jose Balderas, Cruz Arredondo, Martin Santana, Blake Hall, Jaden Banks, Ricardo Santana, Chandler Lynn, Jonathan Morales, Devante Willis and Rolando Tinoco all had wins in the dual.

The Championship match pitted the Matdawgs against county rival Vidalia. Toombs was able to secure the championship with a 46-20 victory. Jose Balderas, Cruz Arredondo, Martin Santana, Blake Hall, Jaden Banks, Ricardo Santana, Chandler Lynn, Jonathan Morales, Devante Willis and Rolando Tinoco all had wins in the dual.

Coach Sam Sapp commented on the win. “The team wrestled hard all day and we continue to improve week to week. We had to bump some guys again today to get some of our younger guys in the line-up. This weekend made us 20-1 in dual matches for the year and I’m real proud of that. We won’t have to move as many people next week because we will have Demetrius Owens in at 152. He has been practicing for several weeks now and we really just wanted to give him one more week to be ready. Looking at today as whole, I am excited about the job our younger guys did. Our seniors set the tone, but the younger guys wrestled well today. Sophomores Jose Balderas, Blake Hall and Chandler Lynn all went undefeated on the day the future continues to be bright. I am really excited to have an opportunity to watch these guys wrestle at state next week.”

Toombs County will try to improve in the 2nd place finish they had last year at state and received the #2 seed for next week and received a bye in round 1. They will wrestle the winner of the Bremen vs Dade winner in round 2 that starts at 8:15 in the Macon Coliseum on Thursday.
