The Vidalia Lady Indians and Indians christened their new gym on Tuesday night as they swept Dublin in a pair of pre-season scrimmage games.

Maddie Tauffman edited 1The Lady Indians got 16 points from Jashiya (JJ) Jones and Dresdan Clark added another 11 as the Lady Indians defeated the Lady Irish 40-33. Coach Brad Thompson who is in his first year as the Lady Indians Head Coach, said “It’s nice to get a win on opening night in our new facility. The Public only sees the two hours that the game is being played; however, it’s the 32 hours of practice and executing a game plan that allows the enjoyment.” Thompson went on to say that this team has room for improvement “This team has room for growth and I expect to see just that.”

Antrell Williams Edited 1In the boys contest the Indians knocked off the Irish who are ranked 10th in the AA Preseason Rankings 74-62. Adam McCloud poured in 17 for Vidalia in the win and Tommy Dalley, who returns 11 players from last year’s team which made it to the AA State Championship, said that early on the nerves showed as the Indians played in their new facility for the first time “I think our nerves got the best of us early on as our kids were all amped up playing in this great new place. But we have scrimmages as tools to learn from and I feel that it serves a purpose, and hopefully we got all of that out of our system and we will be ready to get after it Saturday night.”

Both the Indians and Lady Indians begin the regular season on Saturday as the host the VHS Tip-Off Tournament. The Action will tip-off at 2:00 with the Savannah High girls taking on the Lady Raiders of West Laurens. That will be followed by boy’s action with West Laurens taking on Jefferson County at 3:30. The Lady Indians will then take the floor at 5:00 as they match up with the Lady Falcons of East Laurens High School. Then in the nightcap Vidalia will play the East Laurens Falcons with tip set for 6:30.
