October 3--  The Treutlen Vikings fell in their final game of the 2018 season on the road at Saunders Field in Savannah to the Savannah Country Day Hornets by a score of 41 – 6 Friday night.

The Hornets took the opening kickoff and scored just 4 plays later on a 20 yard run by Eric Brown just 1:22 minutes into the contest. The PAT was successful giving the Hornets an early 7 – 0 lead.

After recovering an onside kick near midfield, the Hornets were unable to pickup a first down and then traded punts with the Vikings. On Savannah Country Day’s second possession, Brown scored again, this time on a 10 yard run to extend the lead to 14 – 0. The Hornets struck quickly on their last possession of the first quarter with a 74 yard pass from Barry Kleinpeter to Kerry Odom giving Savannah Country Day a 21 – 0 lead heading into the second quarter.

Viking Senior DB Caleb Williams intercepted a pass on the Hornet’s next possession but the Treutlen offense couldn’t capitalize, punting it back to the Hornets.

Savannah Country Day added 3 more touchdowns in the second quarter on a 61 yard pass from Kleinpeter to Matthew Mims, a 73 yard run by Davion Smith and a 10 yard run by Donovan Davelaar. One of the three extra points was blocked to give the Hornets a commanding 41 -0 lead at the half.

The second half went by quickly with a running clock in the third and fourth quarters but the Vikings did manage to erase the goose egg from the scoreboard when Da’Mariun Thomas scored on a 5 yard run with 11:26 left in the fourth quarter to make the final score 41 – 6 in favor of the Hornets.

The Vikings fall to 3 – 7 on the season while the Savannah Country Day Hornets move to 7 -3 and enter the Class A Private State Playoffs next week with their opponent still to be determined.
