Welcome to our Obituaries where you can discover what community members have passed and who in your neighborhood could use spiritual and moral support in their time of loss.

June 24-- Mrs. Dorothy Newlin, age 64, of Mt. Vernon, died Thursday, June 20, 2019, at her daughter’s home, after an extended illness. She was born in Orlando, Florida, and grew up in Apopka, Florida, where she lived for many years. She lived in St. Francisville, Illinois for seven years, and moved to Mt. Vernon in 1991. Dot was a homemaker and was Baptist by faith. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, pond fishing, gardening and spending time at the farm. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Lee Newlin, Sr.; parents, Herschel J. Standridge and Hazel Mae Simmons Standridge; and a sister, Wanda Standridge.

Mrs. Newlin is survived by four children, Hershel Lee Newlin and Sherrill of Uvalda, Victoria Conner of Mt. Vernon, Philip Collins of Glenwood, and Dustie Mekeysha Brown-Ligeikis and husband John of Fernandina Beach, Florida; two sisters, Paula Diane Dees and husband Jerry of Uvalda, and Susan Brown of Macon; two brothers, David Standridge and wife Joann of Sparta, Tennessee, and Ed Standridge and wife Bootsie of Dade City, Florida; nine grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside funeral service will be held Monday, June 24th, at 2:00 p.m. in the Uvalda City Cemetery with Pastor Kevin Hammons officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday morning from 10:00 until Noon.
