June 20-- Mr. Clifford A. McKie, Sr., U.S. Army Retired, age 85, of Uvalda, died Wednesday, June 19, 2019, in the Georgia War Veterans Home in Milledgeville, after an extended illness. He was a native of Rochelle and later moved to Brunswick.

As a young man, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and retired after twenty years of active duty and three years in the Army National Guard. During his active duty, he served two tours in Vietnam from 1965-1966 and 1970-1971, one year in Korea, two years in Germany, and two years in the Panama Canal Zone. Sergeant McKie was the Recipient of the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Vietnam Service Medal with one Silver Service Star, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, six Good Conduct Medals, the Korean Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Korea Defense Service Medal.

After retirement he, worked as a security officer for Georgia Power at Edwin I. Hatch Plant, as a State Corrections Officer at Montgomery C.I. in Mt. Vernon, and as security officer with Pinkerton Security Service at Piggy Wiggly Southern. He attended the Uvalda Church of God. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ann Bailey McKie; a son and daughter-in-law, Cliff and Debbie McKie; parents, Alvin Thomas McKie and Monnie Mae Ranew McKie; and three siblings, Raymond, Martha and Mary Lou.

Mr. McKie is survived one son, Mark McKie and wife Angie of the Kibbee Community; one step-son, Glenn Garrett and wife Sally of Vidalia; two grandchildren, Stuart McKie and wife Haley, and Brooke McKie; one step-grandson, Gabe Garrett and wife Monica, all of Vidalia; one great-grandson, Asa McKie; and two step-great-granddaughters, Hadley Garrett and Lila Garrett.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, June 22nd, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Ricky Cummings officiating. Burial will follow in the Uvalda City Cemetery with military honors.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 10:00 until just prior to the service.
