March 12-- Mr. Tyrone “Tony” Russell Phillips, CPO, USN ret., age 77 of Soperton passed away on Sunday morning, March 10, 2019 at Select Specialties Hospital in Savannah.

Born in Rome, Georgia he was one of four children born to the late Howell Russell Phillips and Jimmy Bland Burger Phillips.

After completing high school he enlisted in the U. S. Navy where he served for nineteen years before retiring in 1979 as a Chief Petty Officer. He later worked as a Field Service Engineer with North American Phillips in North Augusta, SC.

Mr. Phillips enjoyed fishing, cooking, and time being out of doors.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his two brothers, Jerry and Philip.

He leaves behind his children, Kimberly Taylor, Macclenny, FL, Sherry Syme (Donald), Jacksonville Beach, FL, Beverly Phillips, Jacksonville, FL, Mike Phillips (Tania), Tampa, FL, a sister, Sonya Kay Phillips, three grandchildren, Owen Taylor Phillips, Michael P. Phillips, Mia Phillips and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 16, 2019 in the Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Reverend Gilbert Posey officiating.

His family will receive friends on Saturday, at the funeral home, from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service.

Petty Officer Phillips will be laid to rest at Jacksonville National Cemetery, Jacksonville, Florida with full military honors at 11:30 a. m., on Monday, March 18, 2019.

He will be truly missed by his family, his friends and those he loved and those that loved him in return. He fought a good fight, he kept the faith, he finished the course; May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace.
