Jan 15--Mrs. Hessie L. Fowler Sweat, age 85 of Soperton passed away on Tuesday morning, January 15, 2019 at the Treutlen County Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral services will be at 3:00 pm on Friday, January 18, 2019 at Harmony Baptist Church with Reverend Mark Sweat officiating.

Mrs. Sweat will be laid to rest beside her husband in Harmony Cemetery.

Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Her family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Sammons Funeral Home.

Born in Montgomery County she was the eldest daughter and one of six children born to the late Quillian and Sudie Sharpe Fowler. At an early age her family moved to Treutlen County where she attended Crossroads School in Treutlen County. In 1955 she married Treutlen County native Cecil Vaughn Sweat. Mrs. Sweat had worked with other family members at Sweat’s Bar B Que for many years. She later worked with the Senior Citizen’s Center and Easter Seals in Soperton.

Mrs. Sweat loved attending gospel sings, working in her flowers, tending to her yard and visiting any hill that resembled a mountain.

She and her husband had been longtime members of Harmony Baptist Church where she was a member of the adult choir.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Cecil Sweat, who passed away in 1996, brothers, Hilton Fowler, Melvin Fowler, Frank Fowler and a sister, Gertrude Fowler Phillips.

She leaves behind her four daughters, Neita Herndon (Lynn), Carol Sue Sweat Simons, Annie June Glover (Jimmy), Doris Warnock (Bill), a sister, Mary Lou Kitchens, grandchildren, Brad Simons (Tracey), Brian Simons (Darlene), Holly Peacock (Matt), Cari Dixon (Ryan), Michael Herndon, D. J. Mason (Lindsay), Heidi Collins (John), Matthew Herndon, great grandchildren, Amelia Peacock, Addy Collins, Brianna Simons, Cole Simons, Ches Collins, Darci Dixon, Bryar Mason, Elijah Simons, Presley Dixon, Ivey Mason, Delaney Simons, ­numerous nieces and nephews and a special friend Gary Horton.
