Back Row: Captain James Jermon, Major Roger Calloway, Susan Demmer, Sergeant Daron Tuten, Barbara Ault, Corporal Christopher Morgan, Libby Hutcheson, Captain Randy Clark

Graduate Zinnia Alvarez bought her first gun three months ago, "The first thing they tell you is to treat every gun as if it's loaded, all the time, to avoid any tragedies or accidents at home.  I've got three boys, who aren't so little anymore, but they're still at home.  I feel a lot more comfortable with my gun now.  I've taken it apart, I've cleaned it and I know how to load it.  I just need a little more practice with my targets," she said.

Captain Randy Clark, Sergeant Daron Tuten, and Corporal Christopher Morgan are Vidalia Police Department’s firearm instructors and also teach the Women’s Firearm Safety Course.

Captain Clark says, "This last class told me it was kind of bittersweet.  They said we enjoyed doing it, but we're sorry it's over,"and he observed, "Most of the women do really well at the range.  Some of them are really good shots."

The next class will be offered March 9th, 16th, and 23rd. Applications can be found at and can be submitted to the Vidalia Police Department from now until March 1, 2019.
