October 10-- Altamaha EMC has been closely monitoring Hurricane Michael and preparing for the worst case scenario. We are in contact with the National Hurricane Center and the local EMS departments for each county we serve for updates on the storm. We have equipment and supplies in stock and we are ready to begin restoring power as soon as it safe for our crews to work. We have 7 contract crews here in our area ready to help with outage restoration.

Based on current wind forecasts, it is possible we will have extensive damage to our distribution system. We thank our members in advance for their patience during power outages. Our crews, along with the contract crews, will work until all power is restored. Once the storm passes through the area and we are able to assess all the damages, we will be able to give an idea on how long the outages might last. We can’t stress enough how important it is to have a backup plan in place to move family members who depend on medical devices to an alternate location in the event of a prolonged outage.

All power outages should be reported by calling 912-526-8181. Please listen carefully and follow the prompts to report an outage. You may have a longer than normal wait time when calling to report an outage due to the high volume of calls. Please do not call 911 to report an outage. 911 is for emergencies only and you need to leave those phone lines open for emergency situations. Our management team is in constant contact with the 911 centers in our area. Again, all power outages should be reported by calling 912-526-8181.

Always stay away from downed power lines. You should assume all lines are energized and stay away from them. Report downed power lines to us by calling 912-526-8181.

Our top priority is restoring power to our members in the fastest and safest manner. The safety of our employees is always at the top of our list. Our hopes and prayers are that our employees and our members stay safe and out of harm’s way during and after Hurricane Michael.
